The Virðisbrævamarknaður Føroya (VMF), also known as the Faroese Securities Market, was established on the 7th of November in 2000. The founders included issuers, investors, banks, a brokerage firm and Faroese governmental authorities.
At the time it was founded, the total share capital was 3 million Danish krone (DKK). The capital was raised to 9 million DKK with an investment of 6 million DKK, of which the Faroese government contributed 4 million and the Faroese Governmental Bank contributed 2 million.
