In May 2012, the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM), under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue (MOFR), Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. (DIR) and the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop human resources and provide technical assistance for the development of a financial and capital market in Myanmar.
In July 2013, the Securities and Exchange Law was enacted and in August 2014, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Myanmar (SECM) was formed under the Ministry of Finance. By December 2014, the Yangon Stock Exchange Joint-Venture Company Limited (YSX) obtained permission of foreign investment from the Myanmar Investment Committee (MIC).
In April 2015, the YSX obtained permission for a stock exchange, issued by the SECM. The YSX held the grand opening ceremony on December 9, 2015.
